Knock: strangers wait at the door.

Most unwanted email comes from people you never wrote to. Dazr Mail asks them to knock first, so your Inbox is the people you know, and you decide about the rest in a few seconds.

Knock is on for every new Dazr Mail address, free included.

Knocks in Dazr Mail: a print shop asking a question, sender check passed, next to a fake security notice marked sender not verified

How it works.

Three steps, and most of them happen without you.

1. Someone new writes

The mail server sees a sender who is not a colleague, not in your contacts and never received an email from you. The message goes to Knocks instead of the Inbox.

2. You see who it is

Knocks shows the sender, their domain and the sender check, with the message as plain text. Nothing loads from the sender until you decide.

3. You decide once

Let in, and this message and every later one go to your Inbox. Ignore, and nothing is sent back. Report as junk, and it goes to Junk.

The sender check, in plain words.

The same checks mail servers do, shown the way you would explain them.

Passed

The sender’s domain says this server may send its mail (SPF), the message carries the domain’s signature (DKIM), and the two agree (DMARC). The sender is who the address says.

Sender not verified

The message claims a domain that did not sign it. Fake banks, parcel services and support desks show up like this, in red, before you read a word.

Not known

The sender’s domain publishes no checks. Not necessarily bad, but worth a second look.

Who never knocks.

Knock is for strangers, not for the people you work with.

Colleagues

People in your organisation in Dazr Identity come straight in.

Your contacts

Everyone in Dazr Contacts comes straight in.

People you emailed

Write to someone once and their answers never knock.

People you pinned

Pinned people also skip delivery in batches.

You stay in control.

Your rules come first

A rule that files mail from a supplier into a folder still does, also for a first email.

Automatic replies still go out

When you are away, people who knock get your automatic reply like anyone else.

Turn it off

Prefer the classic way? Turn Knock off in Settings, under Blocked senders, and everything goes to the Inbox again.

Questions about Knock.

Does the sender know they are knocking?

No. They see nothing different, and an ignored sender gets no answer. You decide in your own time.

Is Knock the same as a spam filter?

No. Spam filtering still runs on the mail server and sends junk to Junk. Knock is about people you don’t know yet, also when their mail is perfectly fine.

What happens to mail from a newsletter I signed up for?

The first one knocks. Let it in once, and the next ones go to Updates.

Where does Knock run?

On the mail server, as a rule with your list of known senders. It works when Dazr Mail is closed and with any mail app you use over IMAP.

An Inbox with only the people you know.
